Barbed Wire Manufacturing

See barbed wire production equipment operating at KUNYU FENCING. This 30-second workshop video shows galvanized wire moving through the production line, giving importers and distributors a view of the machinery and material flow behind a bulk order.

Use the footage alongside the product specifications below to choose your wire gauge, barb pattern and coating. KUNYU’s published range includes 15.5 gauge high tensile wire, 14 gauge high tensile wire and 12.5 gauge galvanized barbed wire in 1,320 ft coils.

How is barbed wire manufactured?

In a typical two-strand process, line wires are fed into the equipment, barb wire is formed and cut around the line wire, and the strands are twisted into the specified construction before coiling. Machine settings determine the barb pattern and spacing. The video shows the operating line; the finished order specification defines the product to be supplied.

For purchasing, connect the production process to measurable checks: wire diameter, barb configuration, spacing, coil length, coating and finished coil weight. Ask for order-specific inspection and packing records where your purchasing program requires them.

Which barbed wire specification should you choose?

Compare wire grade and barb configuration together. A gauge number identifies wire size, but does not by itself establish breaking strength. Start with your project or distributor specification, then match the tensile requirement, coating and coil length.

KUNYU published barbed wire references

14 gaugeHigh tensile4-point5 inGalvanized; confirm level
12.5 gaugeLow carbon4-point5 inClass 3 galvanized

All four references use 1,320 ft coils (402.336 m). Five-inch barb spacing equals 127 mm. Confirm finished wire diameters and tolerances in the quotation.

Is 12.5 gauge stronger than 15.5 gauge?

Not necessarily. The published 12.5 gauge reference is thicker, but the 15.5 gauge product uses high tensile steel. Compare the specified minimum breaking load and tensile properties instead of treating thickness as the only measure of performance. Coil weight, handling and the installed fence design also matter.

What is the difference between 2-point and 4-point barbed wire?

The number describes the sharp tips at each barb position. Both 12.5 gauge references above have 5 in spacing and 1,320 ft coils, so buyers can compare the barb configuration on the same length basis. Choose the pattern required by the intended fence and local purchasing specification; point count alone does not determine fence strength.

How much fence does a 1,320 ft coil cover?

One coil provides 1,320 ft of wire for one strand. A fence with several strands consumes several times its boundary length. Calculate wire from the net fence runs after allowing for gate openings:

Coils = round up [(net fence length × strand count + allowance) ÷ 1,320 ft].

For example, a 1,000 ft run with five strands requires 5,000 ft before joins and waste. Four coils provide 5,280 ft, leaving 280 ft for the planned allowance. Increase the quantity if your allowance exceeds that amount. The five-strand example explains purchasing arithmetic; strand count and spacing must follow the selected fence design.

Barbed wire or woven wire for a cattle boundary?

Barbed wire creates a boundary with individual strands. Woven wire provides a mesh barrier with defined openings. Choose according to animal size, stocking pressure, the required barrier and the post-and-brace system. For mixed livestock or small animals, review the opening pattern rather than assuming that a cattle boundary design is suitable.

Barbed wire: bulk buying questions

What should I confirm about the galvanized coating?

Specify the coating class or minimum coating mass and the applicable test basis. The 12.5 and 15.5 gauge references listed here specify Class 3 galvanized; the 14 gauge coating level is confirmed in the quotation. Request relevant batch or order inspection evidence rather than using appearance alone to judge coating performance.

Can KUNYU supply OEM labels and export packing?

Yes. OEM labels are available for confirmed bulk orders. Bare coils, bundles, carrying handles and pallet packing are reviewed for the selected product. Send your label artwork, barcode requirements and unloading preferences so coil dimensions, packing weights and pallet arrangements can be confirmed together.

What is the minimum order quantity?

The published MOQ for these products is one 20 ft container (1 × 20GP). Mixed-SKU allocation is subject to quotation. Send the proposed quantities of each wire specification and any compatible fence products so the loading plan can be reviewed.

How many coils fit in a container?

The count depends on the confirmed gross coil weight, packed dimensions, pallet layout and permitted cargo weight. A weight calculation alone does not establish the dispatch quantity. Review the container loading guide and request a loading plan for your actual product mix.

What affects the wholesale price and lead time?

Wire grade, diameter, barb pattern, coating, coil length, quantity and packing affect the price. Provide a destination port and requested FOB or CIF basis for a comparable offer. Production timing is confirmed in the formal quotation; sea transit and destination delivery are scheduled separately.

What information should you send for a quotation?

Send wire gauge and steel grade, 2-point or 4-point barbs, barb spacing, coil length, coating, coil quantity, packing preference and destination port. Include your required diameter tolerances, inspection scope and OEM artwork if applicable.
