1. Which Snow Fence Material Should a Buyer Specify?
For a lightweight seasonal line, HDPE plastic mesh is a practical product to evaluate because it is supplied in rolls and can be removed for storage. Select the exact formulation and structure for the exposure and handling conditions. The material name alone does not establish a minimum service temperature, outdoor lifespan or snow-storage capacity.
Timber or permanent engineered snow fences may be appropriate for other project requirements. This guide focuses on KUNYU FENCING plastic mesh; it does not treat all snow-control systems as interchangeable.
Ordinary orange safety mesh is not automatically a snow fence. Warning mesh marks a visible boundary. Snow fencing must work as part of a layout that changes drifting-snow deposition. Confirm the opening ratio, fence height and support system as well as the roll specification.
2. KUNYU FENCING Plastic Snow Fence Specifications
| Specification | KUNYU FENCING range | What to include in the order |
|---|---|---|
| Material | HDPE plastic mesh | Exposure and low-temperature requirements |
| Mesh opening | 45 × 45 mm | Selected structure and required opening ratio |
| Roll height | 1 / 1.2 m | Exact height and dimensional tolerance |
| Roll length | 15 / 30 / 50 m | Length, quantity and measurement basis |
| Areal weight | 160–360 g/m² | Selected g/m² and agreed tolerance |
| Colours | Orange / green / blue / black | Colour reference and label artwork |
| Order basis | Minimum one 20ft container (1×20GP) | Destination, specification mix and packing |
Use the plastic snow fence product page to select a configuration. The 45 × 45 mm snow-fence series is listed separately from the standard round-square safety mesh. An opening dimension does not determine porosity without the strand dimensions and repeat pattern.
For a US-labelled roll, state exact feet and inches. A 4 ft × 100 ft request means 1.2192 × 30.48 m; it is not a 1.2 × 30 m roll. KUNYU FENCING can quote a made-to-order imperial size with an agreed mesh and packing specification.
3. Calculate Mesh Weight Before Comparing Quotations
Net mesh mass (kg) = roll height (m) × roll length (m) × areal weight (g/m²) ÷ 1,000. The areal weight must use the full projected area, including openings. The following values are calculations for KUNYU FENCING ordering specifications; they exclude cores, wrapping and pallets.
| Roll dimensions | 160 g/m² | 240 g/m² | 360 g/m² |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 × 50 m | 8.0 kg | 12.0 kg | 18.0 kg |
| 1.2 × 30 m | 5.76 kg | 8.64 kg | 12.96 kg |
| 1.2 × 50 m | 9.6 kg | 14.4 kg | 21.6 kg |
A heavier roll contains more mesh material for the same projected area. It does not establish tensile strength or low-temperature durability by itself. Compare geometry, material and relevant test conditions alongside mass.
4. Where Should a Snow Fence Be Placed?
Snow fencing needs space for the drift it is intended to form. Review the winter wind direction and the area available upwind of the road, farm access or open yard. A fence immediately beside the area to be kept clear may leave insufficient storage space.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation identifies winter wind and snow transport, fence porosity, available ditch storage and the wind angle to the road as inputs when determining snow-fence height and setback. Use those site variables rather than adopting a single distance for every location.
| Site input | Question to resolve before installation |
|---|---|
| Winter wind | Which winds transport snow toward the area being protected? |
| Exposed terrain | How much open ground supplies drifting snow? |
| Fence geometry | What height and measured opening ratio does the layout require? |
| Drift storage | Where can snow accumulate without blocking access, drainage or visibility? |
| Site access | Who can authorize the fence line and access for inspection and removal? |
For a road project, have the responsible project designer determine the layout. For a farm driveway, consider the entire exposed approach and where the drift can be stored. The same roll can perform differently at two sites with different winds and terrain.

5. Installation and Seasonal Inspection
- Approve the line. Confirm location, underground services, access and snow-storage space before driving posts.
- Specify supports. Match posts, embedment, bracing and fixings to soil, exposure and the selected mesh. Fence height alone does not set post spacing.
- Unroll progressively. Keep the mesh aligned and avoid cutting strands with sharp ties or edges. Set tension and ground clearance according to the agreed layout.
- Inspect the complete line. Check loose posts, damaged openings, fixings and ground clearance after installation and significant weather.
- Review reuse. Remove or replace brittle, split or badly torn mesh. Clean, dry and roll usable material for storage without sharp folds or damaging loads.
Steel T posts can be included in a combined enquiry. Confirm their compatibility and the required fixing arrangement; a catalogue post length is not a complete support design. Snow mesh also does not replace a livestock-containment fence.
6. Prepare a Container-Order RFQ
Minimum order: one 20ft container (1×20GP). Send the selected mesh, exact dimensions, g/m², colour, roll quantity, OEM label, required delivery window and destination port. Include the intended minimum handling temperature and any required tests so the quotation addresses the actual application.
Agree net and gross roll weight, packed width and outside diameter, loose-roll or pallet packing, stacking orientation and unloading method. Check physical fit before checking payload: dividing container payload by mesh weight alone cannot establish a loading quantity. Mixed mesh-and-post orders also need protection against damage and an agreed load distribution.
For quotation comparisons, use the same packing and trade term. Read the orange safety fence buying guide for OEM options, exact unit conversions and an outdoor-performance checklist.
Buyer Questions
What materials work best for snow fences in cold climates?
Evaluate a dedicated HDPE snow-fence formulation against the required temperature, handling and outdoor exposure. KUNYU FENCING offers 45 × 45 mm plastic snow mesh at 160–360 g/m². Confirm relevant test evidence, opening ratio and supports for the selected configuration; HDPE alone is not a cold-weather performance rating.
How far from a driveway should snow fence be?
Setback is site-specific. Assess winter wind, exposed terrain, fence height, porosity and space for the snowdrift. Place the line so the intended drift is stored away from the driveway; do not rely on a universal distance or position it at the road edge without a layout review.
What are the key factors to consider when installing a snow fence?
The key factors are wind direction, terrain and snow transport, measured opening ratio, fence height, snow-storage space and a suitable support/fixing arrangement. Confirm the fence line, ground clearance and maintenance access before installing.
Can orange safety fencing be used for snow control?
Only when the selected mesh and layout meet the snow-management requirements. KUNYU FENCING lists its plastic snow-fence series separately from standard warning mesh. An orange colour or matching opening size does not prove equivalent performance.
Can snow fencing be reused next season?
Reusable condition depends on exposure and handling. Inspect mesh, posts and fixings before reinstalling; replace brittle, split or torn material. Store serviceable rolls clean and dry, away from sharp edges and unnecessary sunlight. There is no universal reuse-cycle count.
What is the minimum order for wholesale plastic snow fence?
KUNYU FENCING has a minimum order of one 20ft container (1×20GP). The mix of specifications and quantities within that container, production lead time and packing are agreed in the quotation. Send your required delivery window and destination port; listed options do not mean every combination is held in stock.
How many snow fence rolls fit in a 20ft container?
The roll count depends on packed diameter and width, gross weight, pallet dimensions and stacking method. Request a configuration-specific packing and loading plan. Calculated net mesh weight is useful for checking a quotation, but it is not the packed shipping weight or proof of container fit.
