Check the required exposed height
A five-foot overall post does not produce a five-foot exposed fence height. Allow for the approved embedment and any top detail. Assess garden mesh, shorter boundary and temporary wire-fence requirements against the chosen system, soil and loading. A shorter post is not automatically suitable for every light-duty use.

No. Part of the post must be below ground, so a five-foot overall post cannot provide five feet above ground. Calculate the required overall length from the approved embedment, exposed fence height and top allowance.
